Hee! I can't remember who the user was, but some awesome person posted a bunch of stuff at [livejournal.com profile] cap_it

I took #25 and #26, these are so awesome! I am so exited that someone is making Rainbow Brite icons! =squee=

Thankee kindly sai...

Now to just figure out photoshop well enough so I can resize my 'borg cat for LJ...

Open your image. Go to ... the third drop-down column (sorry, doing this by memory). you should see "Image size." Click on that, then type in whatever size you want it to be. This will work if the image is smaller than 100x100

if it's larger, then: Open your image. Choose the "Crop" tool. When you click on the crop tool, at the top, directly under your drop down columns you will see details about the crop tool. where it allows you to specify size, type "100px" in each box. Be _sure_ to include PX because the default is inches. Then crop your image as you see fit. You will notice that you are automatically constrained to a box. When you get it how you want it, hit return and it will crop and resize the image for you.

Voila!

All the pretties. Will likely snag all the BtVS ones, tho' I'd have to buy more space. I think you must now have a dedicated folder in 'my pictures'.

I've been having a devil of a time getting animated icons in under the 40k limit. Is there some super-sekrit method - other than don't use more than three frames? ::pouts::

[identity profile] zerographic.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
What program are you using? It's easy as pie on ImageReady, but lemme know what you're using and I'll see if I can talk you through it

[identity profile] magista.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
It is ImageReady. There must be something I'm not doing right, because I have a colour one at 248k and a B&W one at 58k. Grr...

[identity profile] zerographic.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
OK!

When you have your icon done as you would like, with timing and everything look at the box your finished one is in. At the bottom there is a little tab that says "Optimized."

Once you click that look at the boxes on the right side of your screen. Lossy will lower the overall quality of your avatar image, but will give a corresponding drop in size. Lowering the number of colors is also a good idea. I usually play around with the settings in that box until I find a balance of looking good and size.

248k is incredibly huge though as a starting point. Can you identify what may be making it so big? A good rule of thumb is no more than 8 frames for a color gif.

Let me know if you have more questions! :)

OH! and when you have what you want, ALWAYS choose "save optimized as..." out of the file menu or all your hard work will be for naught

[identity profile] magista.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, I shall experiment.

Yeah, the 248k was because I was messing around with multiple frames and trying to do an interesting blurred transition between frames. I tried 'tweening', but the fade from one into the other always reveals the checkerboard background, and I don't know how to fix that.

[identity profile] magista.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee! It works! I tried your suggestion, and I also found that 'optimize to file size' is a handy trick. Oboyobobyoboy... I'm going to go mad now, creating icons for [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_spike. Yay! I shall have to give you credit too, o wise guru of IR. You should post tutorials (because I know that you're absolutely not busy with anything else in your life *g*).

Lookee!!

Next task will be to figure out how to tint the visor glow only.

Now I just have to work on those creativity skills...

I think I'll post a little animation tutorial :) Hopefully it'll answer some more questions

Yeah! I'm so glad you like them! It was a lot of fun to work on something that is from a fandom I'm not at all familiar with :) And I loved that you could give me some guidance on what you wanted.

Hope you didn't mind I incorporated the red in "warum nicht?" in a different way than in their skin. It just looked so strange I had to give them natural tones ;)

Taking 19 and 24. I'll credit when they get used ;)
